Serene Profusion
A profound prosperity within silence, where all things quietly flourish.
"Serene" (Ji) is not emptiness, but a state of drawing sound inward; "Profusion" (Wei) represents the abundance and density that slowly emerge from the depths. Through the repetitive layering of lacquer and the rhythmic polishing of time, the surface becomes both reclusive and shimmering—much like light continuously generating within the night.
This work proposes a dialectical relationship between Eastern materials and contemporary expression. Lacquer painting, a medium heavily reliant on time, accumulation, and meticulous process, embodies the essence of both "control" and "becoming." Under the rigor of technique, it consistently generates unpredictable textures and lusters.
The seemingly quiet imagery actually contains subtle and rich transformations. Through the unique luster and layering of lacquer, the work undergoes delicate shifts depending on the angle and distance of the viewer, akin to nightfall, mist, or flickering light in the distance.
